Safety Beach
Blocked, burst or leaking in Safety Beach?
Blocked drains, burst pipes and leaks in Safety Beach, from the foreshore to the Martha Cove waterway, passed to a licensed plumber day and night.
Plumbing in Safety Beach
A town on the Kangerong basin
Victorian Places records that Safety Beach is backed by a drainage basin that gathers the water of several streams, known as the Kangerong basin. Low ground with little fall leaves stormwater slow to clear and pits full of silt after rain, so levels are checked before a line is relaid.
The settlement grew quickly from the late forties, and by the nineties the first wave of cheaply run-up holiday houses was being replaced. A surviving early house may have shallow or undersized drains and old galvanised pipe, while a rebuilt one usually has PVC, so it pays to know which kind it is.
Early this century the basin was scooped out to make the Martha Cove waterway, a marina with waterside house sites. Drains and pump outs on those lots often run toward the water, and access along the frontage can be tight.

Safety Beach questions
King tides, backflow and waterside lots
Why does stormwater back up when the drain is clear?
After the basin became Martha Cove, king tides and heavy rain caused Tassels Creek to back flood into some houses. When a high tide meets a storm, outlets near the creek can push water back up, so tidal backflow is ruled out before a blockage is blamed, and a non-return valve may be the answer.
Do marina lots use pumped drainage?
Some do. A pumped connection is checked early, because a failed pump looks just like a blocked drain from inside the house.
Who owns the sewer a house connects to?
South East Water, up to its connection point. The drain from there back to the house is the owner's.
