Late nineties subdivisions on old farmland
Victorian Places records that the land south of the Hallam Valley waterway stayed rural until the nineties, and by the end of that decade there were extensive residential subdivisions. Nearly every house is that age or younger, so drains are likely PVC, and a blockage is more likely a sagging joint, rubble left from the build or wipes than roots in cracked clay.
Casey adopted the Narre Warren South (Part A) development plan to coordinate developers, service providers and authorities on part of the suburb. It set where drainage and services run, so on those lots the approved plan and the easements are read before a drain is moved or a connection added.

Narre Warren South questions
Back fences, drainage corridors and easements
Why does water pond at the back fence after a storm?
The suburb has linear parks along waterways, and the Hallam Valley waterway on its edge is a drainage reserve running into Eumemmerring Creek. Houses backing onto them sit beside corridors that fill in heavy rain, so overland flow is ruled out before the property drain is opened.
Can a new drain be laid across an easement?
That depends on what the easement holds. Easements are drawn on the plan of subdivision, and whatever runs in one decides whether a new line can cross it, so the plan is checked before digging.
Is a plastic drain worth relining?
Rarely. A PVC line of this age is usually cleared with a jetter, or a short section is replaced where a joint has dropped, which the camera shows.
