Blocked drains in Melbourne
A drain that gurgles, backs up or smells is telling you something. Whether it is one sink or the main sewer line, the first job is finding where the blockage is and whose pipe it is in.
Blocked drains
What the plumber looks at first
Which drain
One slow sink is usually a local blockage. Several fixtures backing up at once points to the main line between the house and the street.
Whose pipe
The private drain is the owner's up to the water corporation's connection. A blockage past that point goes to the corporation to fix.
Roots and cracks
A drain that blocks again within months often has roots in a joint or a cracked section. A camera shows which, and where.
Clearing it
A drain machine for a simple blockage, a hydro jetter for fat, silt and roots, then the line is run again to prove it flows.

How it works
From the first message to a plumber on site
One message or call, and the job goes to the plumbing company that does it.
Tell us what has gone wrong
What is blocked, burst or leaking, where it is, and whether water or sewage is still running.
The job goes to Plumb & Co
Your details go straight to Plumb & Co, a Melbourne plumbing company, and they arrange a plumber to come out.
The cause is found first
Whose pipe it is, yours or the water corporation's, is worked out before anything else, with a camera where the cause is hidden.
A price before the work
Nothing is started until you have the price for the job and have said yes to it.
Drain questions
Overflows, roots and repeat blockages
Sewage is coming up outside. Is that urgent?
Yes. Keep people and pets away from it, stop using water in the house, and call. An overflowing gully usually means the main line is blocked.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
Roots in a cracked joint, a sagging section that holds water, or fat building up over years. Clearing it again treats the symptom; a camera inspection finds the cause.
Will the garden have to be dug up?
Not always. A damaged section can often be relined from inside the pipe. Where the pipe has collapsed, it is dug up and replaced. The plumber explains both.
