Burst hot water in Melbourne
A tank leaking from the base, water pouring from the relief valve, or no hot water at all. Electric, gas or heat pump, any brand.
Burst hot water
Repair or replace
Made safe
Water and power or gas to the unit turned off, so the leak stops and the unit is safe to work on.
Worth repairing?
A valve, an element or a thermostat is a repair. A tank leaking through its own wall is a replacement.
Replacing it
Like for like where the rules allow it, or a switch to electric or heat pump. The gas rule for existing homes changes on 1 March 2027.

How it works
From the first message to a plumber on site
One message or call, and the job goes to the plumbing company that does it.
Tell us what has gone wrong
What is blocked, burst or leaking, where it is, and whether water or sewage is still running.
The job goes to Plumb & Co
Your details go straight to Plumb & Co, a Melbourne plumbing company, and they arrange a plumber to come out.
The cause is found first
Whose pipe it is, yours or the water corporation's, is worked out before anything else, with a camera where the cause is hidden.
A price before the work
Nothing is started until you have the price for the job and have said yes to it.
Hot water questions
Before anything is replaced
Can I still put in a new gas system?
Until 1 March 2027 in an existing home. From then, the Victorian Government says a gas water heater that needs replacing cannot be replaced with another mains gas unit and must go electric, with exemptions where that is impractical or costly.
Are there rebates?
For heat pumps and some solar systems, yes: Solar Victoria rebates and Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts, each with its own eligibility. The plumber confirms what applies before you choose.
Does a new system need a compliance certificate?
Gas appliances need one at any value, and most other hot water installs need one too. The licensed plumber who does the work issues it.
