Point Cook
Blocked, burst or leaking in Point Cook?
Blocked drains, burst pipes and leaks in Point Cook, from the Western Gardens estate to the Cheetham Wetlands, passed to a licensed plumber day and night.
Plumbing in Point Cook
New estates, a dug lake and coastal wetlands
Point Cook was farmland and an air base until the late nineties, and its residential growth in the 2000s and 2010s was very rapid. Almost every house drain is PVC on a new estate sewer, so a blockage is more likely builder's rubble, a sagging run or a badly glued joint than old clay and roots.
The oldest housing is the Western Gardens estate north of the town centre, a generation ahead of the southern streets. That is where the suburb's first settled connections and failing joints tend to turn up.
In Sanctuary Lakes, land drainage was achieved by digging out a lake. Street stormwater runs to that lake rather than a creek, so a drain that backs up in rain points to a pit, pipe or outlet on the way, and the estate's body corporate may be involved as well as the council.

Point Cook questions
Gates, new titles and the coastal edge
Can a plumber clear a blockage past the inspection shaft?
No. Greater Western Water asks for the shaft to be checked first, and if the inspection shaft is full or holding water the blockage is in its network and its own crews deal with it. The owner may be reimbursed the plumber's fee, while a dry shaft means the house drain, at the owner's cost.
When can stormwater be connected on a newly released lot?
Wyndham City Council will not give legal point of discharge information until a land title exists for that particular lot, and the title for the whole development does not count. That adds lead time to a new house drain layout on an estate release.
Why is silt kept out of the stormwater pits during drain work?
Point Cook's stormwater ends in the salt marshes and natural and artificial lagoons of Skeleton Creek, protected bird habitat with no treatment in between. Jetting water, spoil and cut roots are kept out of the stormwater system for that reason.
